The report “The Everyday Violence of an Internet Shutdown” captures the human cost of the prolonged internet shutdown in Manipur following civil unrest beginning May 3, 2023. It documents how the shutdown shattered daily life—isolating communities from vital news, severing family and support networks, and pushing already vulnerable populations into deeper insecurity. Most striking is the finding that the shutdown not only blocked information flows but also severely disrupted livelihoods, education, and access to basic services, with people facing obstacles to banking, work, exams, and essential communications
